A well-known hardware retailer was looking to replace their current balers in almost a hundred stores nationwide. They contacted Waste Initiatives to discuss options that would best suit their needs.

Cardboard and film waste being the primary issue, balers with the correct specification were the main focus and providing they would fit into confined storage spaces. Other criteria were to have a baler that would be easy to operate and maintained by staff members.

These balers had to be installed nationwide over a specific timeframe and serviced on an annual basis.

Ninety nine percent of Masterfoods Australia products are manufactured at their site in Berkeley Vale, with many of their ingredients sourced from Australian suppliers and local Australian farmers. Masterfoods are passionate about finding more sustainable long-term solutions and they have taken steps to reduce their footprint by recycling water, reducing their waste to landfill, using recycled packaging materials and in the co-generation of their own electricity.

In 2016 Masterfoods approached Waste Initiatives looking for a solution to reduce the volume of waste at their site as they had an excess of packaged food product which was going to landfill.

Challenge

Upper Hunter Shire Council is a local government authority and provides an extensive array of services to its local residents.

The Upper Hunter Shire Council were looking to source balers for their recycling department.

The balers needed to be able to handle a range of bulky materials and be tough enough to withstand constant daily use.

Easy operation was key as the staff needed equipment that would require minimal training and be user friendly.

Over the last 40 years Compass Pools have developed an international reputation for being leaders in the fibreglass in-ground pool market. With a penchant for pushing boundaries, their team has managed to completely redefine the limits of fibreglass pools.

As their business grew, so did the issue of disposing of their 44 gallon drums. The drums were taking up space and the rising amount of waste pickups was causing high disposal costs.

Compass Pools contacted Waste Initiatives for options on waste recycling equipment that would best suit their requirements.

Challenge

IGA Fresh Penola is an award winning supermarket in Penola South Australia offering a wide range of specialty and gourmet foods along with award winning service.

IGA Fresh Penola were looking for a way to compact their packaging waste to free up space where the empty cardboard boxes and plastics were stored and to minimise the amount of bin collections per week.

They required a machine that could handle the volume of cardboard and plastic waste that the supermarket produced whilst still being compact enough to fit in the specified area. One of the requirements was that the staff needed to be easily trained to operate the machine with minimal down time from their other tasks.

Challenge

Jalco operate the largest independent Household Liquids and Powders manufacturing facility in Australia. Based at Smithfield, their purpose built production facility utilises some of the latest blending, granulating and packaging technologies in the manufacture of market leading household cleaning and laundry products.

Jalco had the expensive problem of bulk bags and plastic film going into general waste, they needed to reduce their waste costs and to increase their recycling measures.

Challenge

Lion is one of Australasia’s largest food and beverage companies, employing over 7,000 people across Australia and New Zealand.

Their milk processing division in Queensland contacted Waste Initiatives to discuss options for a system to separate expired milk products from the recyclable containers enabling them to sell the milk to livestock producers and sell the recyclable plastic to a recycler.

The plastic containers would need to have the uncontaminated liquid extracted, whilst washing the containers and packaging them for collection by the recycler.

Their current production needed to continue while this process was in action.

Challenge

Slade Health has been providing exceptional services to the hospital, pharmacy and aged care sectors for over 50 years. From three licensed facilities, they compound many thousands of infusions per annum for over 200 hospitals located across all Australian states.

Slade Health was experiencing a steady increase in volumes of cardboard and general waste through the growth of their business, which lead to more bins on site taking up excessive real estate and losing car parking as a result.

Waste Initiatives was engaged to provide a more cost-efficient and space saving alternative to their bulky and expensive waste management system.

Challenge

Tru Blu Beverages is the largest manufacturer of contract-packed beverages sold through Australian supermarkets.

In 2019 an Australian beverage manufacturing and distribution company in Sydney were looking for a way to recycle their rejected bottles which still contained the beverage inside the plastic bottle.

The extraction of the liquid and compacting the plastic bottles to be ready for recycling collection was the companies main focus for their inquiry.

Green Technology Recycling. G.T.R started up in December 2016 and is a trusted electronics recycling partner for a variety of Australian companies, both local and nationally, including government departments, telecommunication companies and electronics manufacturers.

To effectively process the E-Waste for recycling, Green Technology Recycling needed a shredding solution that could handle the volume of E-waste at their facility and produce quality shredded product.
