The system allowed the customer to be able to recover expired milk from its containers with sufficient quality and purity to be saleable to livestock producers and also recover saleable recyclable packaging free from milk residue to sell to plastic recyclers.

Challenge

Lion is one of Australasia’s largest food and beverage companies, employing over 7,000 people across Australia and New Zealand.

Their milk processing division in Queensland contacted Waste Initiatives to discuss options for a system to separate expired milk products from the recyclable containers enabling them to sell the milk to livestock producers and sell the recyclable plastic to a recycler.

The plastic containers would need to have the uncontaminated liquid extracted, whilst washing the containers and packaging them for collection by the recycler.

Their current production needed to continue while this process was in action.

Solution

Waste Initiatives supplied a system that would shred the full containers and release the milk draining it through a strainer into a stainless steel receival tank below, to then be pumped out for transport.

The shredded containers were conveyed via a screw auger fitted with internal water jets with sufficient flow to wash the shredded plastic but not dilute the milk unduly.

These washings also drained into the stainless- steel tank below. The shredded plastic exiting the screw conveyor was baled in a WastePac twin chamber baler so that production could continue while full bales were being tied off.

Our equipment saves time, is more tidy and cost effective than traditional waste management options.

    Challenge

Slade Health has been providing exceptional services to the hospital, pharmacy and aged care sectors for over 50 years. From three licensed facilities, they compound many thousands of infusions per annum for over 200 hospitals located across all Australian states.

Slade Health was experiencing a steady increase in volumes of cardboard and general waste through the growth of their business, which lead to more bins on site taking up excessive real estate and losing car parking as a result.

Waste Initiatives was engaged to provide a more cost-efficient and space saving alternative to their bulky and expensive waste management system.

    Solution

After several meetings and site assessments, Waste Initiatives supplied and commissioned two Compactors for the site and delivered significant savings in both space and waste overhead for Slade.

Waste Initiatives were also able to successfully secure an EPA Bin Trim Rebate for the business, fast-tracking the Return-On-Investment for the compactors.

The compactors have proven themselves in achieving high payloads on minimal footprint across cardboard and general waste streams and this particular installation will pay for itself many times over whilst keeping the site tidy and safe.

      Challenge

Tru Blu Beverages is the largest manufacturer of contract-packed beverages sold through Australian supermarkets.

In 2019 an Australian beverage manufacturing and distribution company in Sydney were looking for a way to recycle their rejected bottles which still contained the beverage inside the plastic bottle.

The extraction of the liquid and compacting the plastic bottles to be ready for recycling collection was the companies main focus for their inquiry.

      Solution

Waste Initiatives found the solution by custom building an Automatic De-Watering and Bailing System which automatically de-waters and bales the PET bottles into a compact bale, minimising waste and post production time.

The overall investment into this system will reduce waste collection costs whilst also increasing efficiency in the day to day running of the business with less manual handling.

The company had planned for a 2 year payback for the system and have mentioned that it is now looking at under 18 months.

We were tossing up whether to invest in a shredder for quite a while and glad we approached Waste Initiatives for a quote as they gave us a great deal so we went ahead with the purchase. The guys made us a new hopper and when we started using the unit in our facility we were very impressed with it’s speed and the quality of the shred.

Green Technology Recycling. G.T.R started up in December 2016 and is a trusted electronics recycling partner for a variety of Australian companies, both local and nationally, including government departments, telecommunication companies and electronics manufacturers.

To effectively process the E-Waste for recycling, Green Technology Recycling needed a shredding solution that could handle the volume of E-waste at their facility and produce quality shredded product.

They contacted Waste Initiatives to discuss options to suit their specific requirements.

        Solution

Waste Initiatives trialled the WasteQuip Single Shaft Shredder on processing the E-Waste and the result was exactly what Green Technology Recycling needed.

A custom hopper was built tailored to their exact loading height which was a beneficial addition to the unit.
