Talk to Waste Initiatives today to find out more about our waste & recycling solutions.
Waste Initiatives provide a range of WastePac vertical balers, designed to compact and bale common waste for easier transportation and disposal. This machinery is implemented by small businesses, which handle a significant volume of cardboard, e-waste, cans and plastics throughout their sales and services.
The larger series of vertical balers available are more suited for industrial organisations, which output tonnes of waste in their operations and would benefit from selling large quantities of baled-waste.
Cardboard & Plastic Balers
Our compact balers are designed for cardboard and plastic and are perfect for businesses operating in limited spaces, such as retail outlets, offices, and city-based hospitality establishments. These balers can handle boxes up to 1 meter wide and produce bales of varying sizes, depending on the specific model within this range. They are well-suited for small to medium volumes and offer the convenience of automatic baling for models starting from the WastePac 60 upwards. With pressing forces ranging from 2 to 6 tonnes, except for the WastePac 300LH model, which exerts a force of up to 20 tonnes, our compact balers provide versatile options to meet different requirements.
Heavy Duty Balers
Our heavier-duty balers include the WastePac 450 Long Ram Baler, built to handle heavy-duty tasks such as baling mixed plastics with exceptional robustness. For high-capacity requirements, the WastePac 550 Heavy Duty Baler stands out as the perfect choice, offering optimal bale density for challenging materials like tyres and rigid plastics. Compact and versatile, the WastePac 60 Heavy Duty Can Baler fits snugly into tight spaces while effectively processing a variety of waste, including PET bottles, cans, and cardboard. Each baler is equipped with features like high-density bales, automated bale ejectors, and optional extras to streamline waste disposal.
Multi-chamber balers allow multiple modular chambers to segregate and bale different materials at the source, with the efficiency of running one machine. The WastePac 40 PET, ideal for PET Bottles, with lid removal, is suitable for lineside production areas and efficiently handles large volumes of plastic bottles by eliminating the need to remove bottle caps before baling and allowing for product destruction of filled bottles. The WastePac 75 Multi, a more compact baler ideal for smaller spaces, to the WastePac 200 Multi, a versatile baler capable of up to 6 chambers, are ideal for recyclers handling medium to large multiple waste streams, for simultaneous baling of assorted materials, saving time, labor and money.
For more innovative waste management solutions designed to save space and lower costs, vertical baler machines are definitely equipment that you may want to integrate into your recycling procedures.
Most commonly used to assist in recycling materials, vertical baler units condense large material into a smaller, more manageable bale. Designed with space restriction in mind, our supply of rental vertical balers can suit many commercial and industrial applications known to have a large waste output.
Baler machines are also almost always used for the compaction of material to facilitate extra storage, handling, and transport. Most materials commonly fed into a baler in the waste and recycling industries include, plastic packaging, plastic bottles, paper, cardboard packaging, light gauge ferrous and non-ferrous metals. In fact, any product which can be compacted into a bale.
Waste Initiatives supplies and rents an impressive range of industrial balers, both vertical and horizontal, with safety in mind. We have balers from small single phase units producing a bale of 40kgs, up to large balers, producing bales that weigh over 1 tonne. Such throughput products are great for commercial use.

Vertical Balers are designed to compact virtually any material into a manageable bale. If your business is looking to more efficiently compact recyclable goods at the source, reduce labour and operational costs, streamline productivity as well as create a new revenue stream for your business, then a vertical bale might be a lucrative investment.
Our range of vertical baler machines are sturdy, built with safety in mind with many efficiency and ergonomic benefits to process a number of materials. This ensures that our balers can be introduced into any workplace.
Vertical balers feature two rams that compresses material from top to bottom. These types of bales are easy to transport and can produce a variety of bale sizes depending on your requirements. Vertical baler machines usually produce bales that are smaller than those made by horizontal balers, however we offer machines that can produce a shipping bale.
Our balers include:
- Cardboard and plastic balers
- Rigid Product Balers
- Multi-chamber Balers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a vertical baler?
Vertical balers process waste or recycling materials with a vertical straight-down press force. Making materials easier to process in processing facilities, as condensed bales.
What is the difference between a vertical and horizontal baler?
Vertical balers compact general waste and recycling top-down. Vertical baler machines can handle a wider range of materials, are less expensive and take up less space. On the downside, the bales they produce may not always be up to the usual ‘mill standard’.
Unlike vertical balers, horizontal balers compress materials side to side. Theyare typically used for more industrial use and deal with only a few recycling materials. These balers can also handle large amounts of recycling and the bales they produce are very dense. The baled materials are then easier to deliver to transfer stations for warehouse distribution.
How does a vertical baler work?
Here's how to operate a vertical baler:
- Open the door, put the waste into (open and laid flat for large boxes) the large feed opening and close the door.
- Then press the button or pull the lever to push down the ram of the recycling baling machine, which will compress the load. (If you have a semi-automatic vertical baler, then the ram will return naturally to save time, if not you may need to move the lever again).
- When the recycling baler is full, a ‘bale full’ signal should appear, letting workers know that the cardboard baler is full and they can leave and come back later to retrieve the bale or continue to load.
You can use vertical balers to compress a range of recyclable waste, such as:
- Corrugated cardboard
- PET plastics
- Ferrous materials
- Non-ferrous materials
- Other plastic waste
What baler machine is suitable for me?
Vertical balers are ideal for small to medium loads. While horizontal recycling balers are suited for dealing with larger loads. If uniform bales are also what you are looking for distribution, then a horizontal baler is ideal.
At Waste Initiatives, we have helped make it easier for you to find the ideal baler machine for your applications by splitting our range of balers into categories in our listings. Furthermore, each listing highlights important product information in the descriptions for your reference.
Use Cardboard & Plastic Balers for small to medium recyclable cardboard and plastic loads.
Use Rigid Product Balers for heavy-duty vertical compressing, for tougher bulky materials like PCABS, PET plastics, tyres & car bumpers.
Use Multi-Chamber Balers for faster processing times, a baler with multiple chambers. This allows workers to safely continue loading while the baler is in operation.

How much does a cardboard baler weigh?
Each cardboard baler weighs differently, depending on the baler model and type.
Our lightest cardboard baler weighs 140kg (WASTEPAC 40).
Our heaviest cardboard baler weighs 1938kg (WASTEPAC 550HD).
Waste Initiatives' heaviest multi-chamber industrial balers, which can also process cardboard, weighs 1400kg (WASTE PAC 200 Multi).
How much do vertical balers cost?
Like all industrial waste and recycling machines, vertical baler pricing begins in the thousands and goes up to five digits. However, also like industrial machines, we offer flexible financing and rental options. So that our balers are more affordable and manageable for you.
How to maintain a baler machine?
Maintaining your baler machine isn't too different from maintaining other industrial machines.
Make sure you clean your balers regularly and keep your wider facilities clean. Ensure good quality baler oil for your baler’s maintenance and oil consistently to keep everything running smoothly. Conduct regular inspections or schedule a preventative maintenance service.
Most importantly, you should train your workers to properly operate the machine so that there is no damage either to your workers or the machine.
