Problem: Plastic HDPE drums and purgings shredding

Cormack Holdings (Tricorbraun), a specialist in closure manufacturing for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical markets, faced a challenge with its plastic moulding lines.
The purgings produced were too large to be processed through their existing inline granulators. Additionally, they needed a solution for shredding HDPE drums without any preprocessing. These large plastic pieces required an efficient system to break them down into smaller flakes that could then be fed through their granulators and reintroduced into the production cycle.

Solution: Single Shaft Shredder System

Waste Initiatives provided Cormack Holdings with the WT2260 shredder, the ideal solution for their needs. The WT2260 features a large hopper that easily accommodates the sizable purgings and HDPE drums. Despite its compact size, this shredder is highly efficient for the volumes Cormack Holdings processes.

The machine’s short outfeed conveyor is designed to load the shredded flakes directly into onsite bins, facilitating easy transfer to the granulators. With the WT2260’s larger infeed opening, the previously problematic purgings can now be shredded into manageable flakes, which are then processed through the granulators and fed back into the molding system. This integration has streamlined Cormack Holdings’ operations, reducing waste and enhancing their recycling capabilities, while supporting their sustainability goals in Loganholme, Queensland. The WT2260’s robust design also ensures long-term reliability and minimal maintenance, providing Cormack Holdings with a cost-effective and efficient shredding solution.
