The Barclay Secondary Tyre Shredder reduces tyre material to 1.4″, 2″, or 3.6″ (35–90 mm) chips. Ideal for TDF or granulating, it is designed to pair with a primary shredder.

Vertech

Overview

A core part of Vertech’s premium equipment range, the Barclay Secondary Tyre Shredder is designed to deliver high-precision chip sizing for tyre recycling systems. Available in three models, it processes pre-shredded material into clean, uniform chips of 1.4″”, 2″”, or 3.6″” (35 mm, 50 mm, or 90 mm). Ideal for TDF (tyre Derived Fuel) production or granulating, the shredder runs efficiently in-line with a primary shredder.

Top-feed design allows for oversize material to be re-fed, ensuring targeted sizing is consistently achieved. Featuring premium Cru-Wear tool steel blades and precision AISI D-2 tool steel bases, the machine offers long wear life and cutting accuracy. Rotating strippers prevent jamming and downtime, while a heavy-duty chain feed system with adjustable tensioners ensures smooth throughput.

Fully wired with user-friendly controls and a large emergency stop button, the Barclay Secondary Shredder is engineered for safety, reliability, and easy maintenance. It embodies the Vertech promise of robust, reliable, and future-focused waste processing technology.

Key features

  1. Top-feed design allows oversized pieces of material to be re-fed into the machine to achieve the desired chip size.

  2. Modular knife/base combination for easier blade changes and maintenance.

  3. Rotary strippers prevent materials from becoming jammed between the knives, resulting in higher efficiency and reducing potential downtime.

  4. Typically cuts 2” chips, but we can manufacture custom machines that produce thinner or wider chips.

  5. Three configurable models: 1.4S (1.4″ / 35 mm chips), 2.0S (2″ / 50 mm chips), and 3.6S (3.6″ / 90 mm chips).

  6. Easy-to-use controls with an emergency stop button.

Optional Extras

  1. Through-feed (side load), 45° angle or top-load configurations.

  2. Cut spacing ranges from 1.3” (33 mm) to 3.6″ (90 mm), depending on the model.

  3. Optional in-feed and out-feed conveyors.

  4. Add-on classifier complete tyre TDF 150 mm shredding system.

The ultimate dual shaft shredder for waste tyres

  1. Suit specific needs

Choose a configuration that fits your throughput targets, site footprint, and processing goals. With three models available, you can match chamber width, motor power, shaft size, and output dimensions to your operation.

  2. Meet high demand

Built for sustained operation, this dual-shaft tyre shredder machine supports a throughput of up to 20 tonnes per hour. Slow shaft speeds of 20 to 28 RPM deliver controlled waste tyre reduction while keeping production moving.

  3. Handle industrial loads

Take on tougher workloads. The electric gear-driven system, powered by a SEW Eurodrive motor and paired with shafts up to 342.9 mm in diameter, delivers the strength and torque needed for demanding applications.

  4. Achieve reliable results

Get consistent, accurate output every run. Defined cutter spacing, cutter thickness, and shaft speed ensure controlled chip sizes from 35 mm to 90 mm, supporting predictable handling and downstream processing.

  5. Simplify power delivery

Cut out the complexity of hydraulic systems. The electric gear-drive design provides direct power transmission, supporting stable operation and straightforward integration into fixed, electrically powered installations.

  6. Ensure steady operation

Stability you can rely on, shift after shift. A robust industrial build and substantial operating weight help keep the machine steady, while the top-feed, horizontal shaft design supports smooth, consistent material flow.

Frequently asked questions

A tyre shredder is an industrial machine used to break down rubber waste tyres into smaller, manageable pieces for recycling or further processing.

A key step in preparing tyres for reuse, granulation, or energy recovery, these shredders are essential machinery in tyre recycling plants, waste recovery facilities, and industrial processing sites.

A secondary tyre shredder reduces pre-shredded tyres into smaller, more uniform pieces as part of the tyre recycling process. It operates after the primary shredder breaks down the whole tyre, refining material into consistent chips that are easier to handle, transport, and process further.

In tyre recycling facilities, secondary tyre shredders are often used to prepare material for granulation, steel separation, or additional size reduction, helping improve output consistency and processing efficiency.

Choosing the right secondary shredder depends on your required throughput, desired chip size, available installation space, and electrical capacity.

At Waste Initiatives, our expert team is on hand to help you determine the most suitable tyre shredder for your processing and recycling requirements. Enquire now for more information and tailored advice.

This machine is a dual shaft tyre shredder, using two counter-rotating shafts to grip, shear, and reduce tyres at low operating speeds. Dual shaft shredders are favoured in tyre processing for their controlled cutting action and steady material feed.

Depending on the selected model, this secondary shredder can process 12 – 18 tonnes per hour, depending on configuration. Throughput varies based on input size, feed method, and output configuration, with flexible options available for medium and large-scale tyre recycling operations across Australia.

This tyre shredder is designed for high-volume processing of pre-shredded or pre-processed used tyres. The acceptable input size depends on the selected model and upstream machinery.

The Barclay Secondary Tyre Shredder is designed for high-throughput material reduction with consistent chip sizing. Controlled output sizes range from approximately 35 mm to 90 mm, depending on the machine model, cutter spacing, cutter thickness, and cutting chamber configuration.

This tyre shredder operates on 380 to 460 volt, three-phase power, using an electric gear-drive system. This configuration aligns with standard industrial electrical infrastructure used across Australia.

Yes. This tyre shredder is engineered for fixed, industrial installation in tyre recycling and material recovery facilities. Its consistent output and electric drive make it suitable for integration with conveyors, granulators, and downstream recycling equipment.
