Challenge

As one of the largest privately-owned civil construction material suppliers and recyclers in the Sunshine Coast, Rowcon Recycling approached Waste Initiatives in commissioning a construction and demolition (C&D) recycling plant. Only 20 to 30 per cent of C&D waste is currently reused or recycled in Australia.

Rowcon needed a very clean product that could be further processed into various recycled products for multiple applications such as road base and aggregate products.

The requirements included an output of 50 tonnes per hour of mixed C&D, which equates to about 120,000 tonnes per annum.

Solution

The installation of the plant commenced mid-2022 with a footprint of just over 53 meters by 26 meters. It includes a heavy-duty feed hopper and conveyor. In addition, it has a unique long-piece separator, an over-belt magnet and a two-deck vibratory screen.

Two Conveyors lead into an airconditioned five-bay sorting cabin with two pick lines to recover timber, PVC, plastics and cardboard. The aggregate finally passes through magnet and vacuum separators producing a clean end product.

Waste Initiatives worked with the team from consultation through to installation to pinpoint any constraints or challenges to achieving Rowcon’s objectives.

Continued support and backup are provided on-site or via remote monitoring.
