Challenge

Over 1 million mattresses are landfilled in Australia each year, despite the fact that most of their materials are recoverable. – “Planet Ark”

TIC Group, a well-established reverse logistics company headquartered in Melbourne, has addressed a long-standing environmental issue and the bane of local governments around Australia in illegal dumping of mattresses thanks to implementing a complete mattress recycling facility.

Solution

With the expertise and technology contributed by Waste Initiatives, TIC has set a recovery target of more than 85% of material from the mattresses received by the state-of-the-art facility.

Fully operational, the plant is capable of processing 450,000 mattresses per annum.

The Victorian facility, located in Tottenham, has been operational since 2016 and is processing more than 60 mattresses an hour.
