Panizzolo twin-shaft industrial shredders and openers provide controlled volume reduction for metal scrap, WEEE, bulky waste and mixed industrial materials, with hydraulic and electric configurations available for different processing requirements.
Overview
The Panizzolo industrial shredder and opener range provides flexible primary size reduction for metal recycling and waste processing operations.
Designed around twin-shaft processing technology, the range includes heavy-duty PZ scrap shredders, versatile PZ waste shredders, and OP openers for primary processing of bulky, difficult and compressed materials. Depending on the application, machines can operate independently or provide the initial volume-reduction stage ahead of hammer milling, separation and refining.
Panizzolo designs its shredding equipment around processing flexibility, wear resistance and straightforward maintenance. Different cutting chamber sizes, blade configurations and drive options allow the equipment to be matched to the characteristics of the incoming material and required downstream process.
Shredder Configurations for Different Applications
PZ R Scrap Shredders
The PZ H 1500 R and PZ H 2000 R are Panizzolo’s dedicated scrap metal shredders.
Designed for demanding metal processing applications, these hydraulic twin-shaft machines use screwed blade configurations and large cutting chambers to provide controlled volumetric reduction of incoming scrap before further processing.
They are particularly relevant where metal-rich material requires initial reduction before being transferred to a hammer mill or downstream recovery process.
| Model | Cutting Chamber | Motor Power | Blade Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| PZ H 1500 R | 1,500 × 1,400 mm | 264 kW | Screwed |
| PZ H 2000 R | 2,000 × 1,400 mm | 400 kW | Screwed |
PZ Waste Shredders
Panizzolo’s PZ waste shredders are designed for the volumetric reduction of mixed bulky and industrial waste.
The machines can operate independently or be incorporated into larger recycling systems, preparing material for more specific downstream grinding and refining processes.
| Model | Cutting Chamber | Motor Power | Blade Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| PZ H 1000 | 1,000 × 700 mm | 110 kW | Integral |
| PZ H 1300 | 1,300 × 1,100 mm | 150 kW | Integral |
| PZ H 1500 | 1,500 × 1,100 mm | Up to 180 kW* | Integral |
*Panizzolo’s PZ H 1500 is available in both 150 and 180 kW options.
OP Twin-Shaft Openers
The OP Series performs a somewhat different function from conventional shredding.
These machines are designed for primary opening and reduction of difficult, bulky or compressed waste streams. Wear-resistant blade alloys can be configured according to the number and arrangement of teeth, allowing the machine to be adapted to different materials.
Applications include:
- WEEE categories R1 and R2
- Bulky waste
- Municipal solid waste
- Aluminium
- Baled materials
- Compacted waste
- Other difficult mixed waste streams
Materials and Applications
The breadth of the range allows Panizzolo shredders and openers to be configured for a variety of metal-rich and industrial waste streams.
Typical applications include metal scrap, mixed metals, WEEE, aluminium, electric motors, cables, bulky industrial waste, municipal waste and compressed or baled materials. The exact shredder, blade configuration and downstream process should be selected according to the incoming material rather than throughput alone.
This is particularly important where shredding forms only the first stage of the recovery process. The objective is not necessarily to produce the final commodity directly from the shredder, but to create material that can be efficiently processed by the next stage.
Shredding as the First Stage of Metal Recovery
For many metal recovery applications, shredding and hammer milling perform different functions.
A Panizzolo shredder initially reduces the volume and dimensions of incoming material. The reduced material can then move into a hammer mill for more intensive grinding and liberation before ferrous, non-ferrous and other fractions are separated.
A typical process may therefore look like:
Incoming scrap → Twin-shaft shredding → Hammer milling → Separation → Refining
Wear-Resistant Blade Design
Panizzolo uses specially selected wear-resistant alloys for its shredder and opener blades.
Depending on the machine and application, blade configurations can be adapted around the material being processed. Cutting chambers are also designed to make replacement of wear components relatively straightforward, helping simplify routine maintenance.
For the OP openers in particular, the number and teeth of the blades can be configured according to the characteristics of the material.
Hydraulic and Electric Configurations
The Panizzolo opener range includes both hydraulic and electric drive configurations, depending on the machine and application.
Standalone Machine or Integrated Processing Line
Panizzolo shredders can operate as individual volume-reduction machines or form part of a larger recycling process.
For metal recovery applications, they can be integrated upstream of FLEX or MEGA hammer mills, followed by technologies such as magnetic separation, eddy current separation, screening, air separation and refining.
Panizzolo’s broader recycling philosophy is modular, allowing equipment and processing stages to be selected around the incoming material and expanded as production or recovery requirements change.
Choosing the Right Panizzolo Shredder
Selecting an industrial shredder starts with the material rather than simply the size of the machine.
Waste composition, dimensions, density, contamination, required throughput, feed method and the next stage of the recycling process all influence the appropriate shredder and cutting configuration.
For scrap metal processing, the PZ R range provides dedicated metal shredding capability. For bulky and mixed industrial waste, the PZ waste shredder range provides flexible volume reduction, while OP openers are suited to primary opening and reduction of materials such as WEEE, aluminium, bulky waste and compressed materials.
